Jessie Phillips Jones, 72, departed this walk of life Friday evening, January 22, 2016 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. 

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 28, 2016 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.  Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park North on Old Grantham Road.

Jessie P. Jones was born on July 30, 1943 to the late Jessie and Georgia Phillips, of Goldsboro, NC. She graduated from St. Augustine University in Raleigh, NC. After graduating, Jessie married Roger Jones on September 16, 1965. From this union two children were born.

Jessie later began her teaching career with Goldsboro City School System for many years. After her retirement, her passion and desire for education lead her to continue teaching at Wayne Community College of Goldsboro.  Jessie was known to be a patient and supportive educator. Her life-long goal was to inspire creativity and dedication in others.

 After resigning from Wayne Community College, she dedicated her remaining time towards educating the youth of St. Stephen’s Missionary Baptist Church where she was an active member for many years.

 She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband of Fifty years, Roger Jones; two daughters, Sharon (Jerome) Mines of Hillside, NJ, La Rhonda Jones of Sumter, SC; two brothers, Curtis (Angela) Phillips of San Antonio, TX, Archie (Joanne) Phillips of Erie, Co; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, George Lee Artis.

The family is in the care of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.
