Howell Funeral Home & Crematory was established in July, 1997, by founder and owner, Stephen R. Howell. Starting out as a "store-front funeral home" on East Walnut Street, we were told we would never succeed -- a new business with no parking and no chapel. However, we viewed things differently. We had the whole city of Goldsboro for parking -- and didn't have to sweep our own parking lot!

During our first year of business we served 30 families. Through our guidance and professionalism, our business tripled by our second year, allowing us to serve 90 families.

In December 1999, we were proud to open the doors of our beautiful new facility at 1500 Wayne Memorial Drive, which included Wayne County's first on-site crematory.

In 2001, recognizing another need in the community, Howell Funeral Home & Crematory expanded its services to include a separate pet crematory. We also added a full line of pet memorial products including urns, markers, and pet caskets. A website was set up for our new company, Animal Care Crematory, to describe our pet services as well as display our pet memorial products. Click on Pet Services for more information.

Because of the trust and confidence our families placed in us, we have once again had to expand our funeral home facilities to meet the growing needs of our community. In the summer of 2003, a new addition was completed, adding over 3000 square feet, which made room for a new chapel with seating capacity of 300, casket and cremation options room and conference room.

Our real growth is not in our building, but in our service to our community. Today, Howell Funeral Home & Crematory continues to grow and expand to meet the needs of the families we serve. We strive to provide compassionate and caring services to each and every family. Click on the links to read more about our facilities and services.

Present Location

Thank you for the kindness extended to our family during our time of grief. You really showed how much you care as a member of our family and as funeral directors. The food you brought was delicious! We also appreciate all the special touches you added to the funeral—the pictorial scene on the vault, the video tribute, the music and singing, as well as the horse drawn buggy hearse.
It was ALL special. You outdid yourselves!!! We love you!!!
