Paul "Pudge" Miller Obituary

Paul "Pudge" Miller, formerly of Ellenville, New York, joined the rank of angels surrounded by his loved ones at his home on Wednesday, July 29, 2020. He was 93 years young. Pudge is survived by his beautiful wife of 68 years, Genevieve Miller; daughter, Debbie Stedner and husband, Stan; son, Paul Craig Miller and wife, Cindy; two granddaughters Kimberly Stedner-Clayton and wife, Donna; Stefanie Hawkins and husband, William; five great-grandchildren, Mikaela and husband, Joseph, Max, Will, Izabelle and Maggie; sister, Irene Whaley; sister-in-law, Joyce Gray; three step-grandchildren, Conner, Brandon and Melissa and a treasure of nieces and nephews.

 

Pudge was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Tessa Miller and eleven brothers and sisters.

 

Pudge was born in Ellenville, New York on February 1, 1927. Pudge enlisted in the United States Army and is a proud World War II Veteran. After his return, he started dating Genevieve Berg and married her on September 16, 1951. Pudge owned his own sanitation corporation, drove a school bus for 30 years, and was a master monument carver. Later in life, Pudge enjoyed playing golf and wood working.

 

Before moving to La Grange, North Carolina, Pudge was a lifelong member of the American Legion Post 111, Ellenville, New York. He also was a member of the Ellenville First aid and Rescue Squad along with the Kimble Hose Volunteer Fire Company, also of Ellenville, New York. Pudge was also highly active at his home church, St. John's Episcopal Church, Ellenville, as a member of the vestry, Crucifer, and chalice bearer. After moving to North Carolina, Pudge continued his ministry works at St. Francis Episcopal Church of Goldsboro.

 

A private family service will be held on Thursday at Howell Funeral Home. A celebration with military honors will be held at St. Francis Episcopal Church of Goldsboro at a later time.

 

The family would like to say an incredibly special thank you to all those who have helped with meals and prayers during this very difficult time especially Cristina Nieves and Tammy Gurley for everything you have done. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

 

In lieu of flowers, Pudge has requested donations to be made to St. Francis Episcopal Church, 503 Forest Hill Drive, Goldsboro, NC 27532.

 

The family is in the care of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.
