Nettie Marie Rowe

Nettie Marie Rowe was the 1st child born to the union of the late Leslie and Thelma Rowe on May 3, 1936.  She received her angel wings on Wednesday, April 21, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Thelma Rowe and siblings, John Leslie (Les Jr.) Rowe, Annie “Sister” Woodom, and Angeline Cox.

Ree as she was called, grew up in Wayne County and graduated from Dillard High School in the Class of 1954.  She attended Winston Salem State University, graduating in 1958 with a degree in Elementary Education.  She started her teaching career in Smithfield NC and ended it in 1994 having taught many years at Norwayne Middle School.  She joined Goldsboro Chapel Church at a young age and has remained there most of her life.  She was a Trustee of the Church until her illness prevented her from fulfilling her duties. She also served as the photographer and enjoyed taking pictures of all church events, using those pictures to update the bulletin board regularly.

Nettie was known for her wit and quick answers which she kept until the end.  She also enjoying fishing from the pier, planting flowers, taking pictures and painting. She has always loved animals and had many pets, including fish, gerbils and dogs.  Her dog, Zak was her constant companion until her illness confined her.

While our hearts are saddened by our unanticipated loss, we are thankful that God allowed us to have her for so many years.  We only ask that He who makes no mistakes, sustain us during our bereavement and give us strength to accept that His will has been done.  Memories of Nettie “Ree”s love will forever be cherished in the hearts of her family, sister, Thelma (James) McLaurin, brother, Lestonio Rowe, nieces, Sharon (Bernard) Patterson, Monik (Rorrie) Lee, Annette (Bruce) Little, Gigi Cox, Celeste Hillard, Tomeka (Larry) Robinson, nephews, Thomas (Audra) Wooten, Thomas (LaSonya) Woodom, Tamel Wooten and Rico (Carlena) Rowe, several great nieces, great nephews, other extended family and friends.

Viewing will be held Tuesday, April 27, 2021 from 4 until 6 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro with the family present from 5 until 6 p.m.  A graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park in Dudley.
