Merle Jean (Walker) Hobbs

Merle Jean Hobbs, 91, of Goldsboro went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at Goldsboro Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center. 

A time of visitation will be held Saturday, August 23, 2025 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro. A graveside service will follow at 11 a.m. at the Walker Family Cemetery in Goldsboro. 

Mrs. Hobbs was born in Wayne County on December 19, 1933 to the late Berry Swift Walker Sr. and Sally Barwick Walker. She was a faithful member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Goldsboro. 

She is survived by one son, Randy Hobbs (MaryAnn) of Tennessee; one sister, Shirley Lawrence of Goldsboro; two sisters-in-law, Betty Walker and Barbra Walker, both of Goldsboro; two daughters-in-law, Kim Hobbs of Goldsboro and Connie Hobbs of La Grange; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cornelius Hobbs; two sons, Jeff Hobbs and Greg Hobbs; two daughters, Cathy Hobbs Waters and Connie Hobbs; one sister, Faye Sutton; son-in-law, Bill Waters; two sisters, Helen Wise and Marjorie Crawford; four brothers, Kenneth Walker, Lyman Walker, Berry Walker Jr. and Max Walker and one brother-in-law, C.J. Hobbs.
