Margaret (Peg) Irene Stamp- beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and inspiration to extended family, friends, and community passed peacefully on September 15, 2023. She was born on May 29, 1949, in Washington DC to Edward Patrick Sheehan and Irene Perrault Sheehan. Her sister, Patricia Sheehan Santoro predeceased her, and she leaves her siblings, Jean Sheehan Malave and John Sheehan.
Peg was a loving spouse to her devoted husband, David L. Stamp of Clayton, NC who has been by her side through the many journeys of life and has exhibited love in action with his dedicated caregiving. They had adventures in their small plane and enjoyed traveling in big planes, especially to Hawaii, their favorite destination together. Their lovely marriage of 46 years was an inspiration to all that knew them.
She is also survived by her daughter and son in law, Yvonne & Peter Shoff of Guilford, CT who will miss her ceaseless generosity of spirit, dependability, everyday conversations of encouragement as well as being the loving, protective mama to Yvonne throughout her life. Peg would be delighted when asked if she were Yvonne’s sister instead of her mother, which often happened.
She adored and doted over her two grandchildren, her “sweet peas”, Margaux Elena Shoff of Alexandria, VA and Chloe Marie Shoff of Arlington, VA. She was the biggest cheerleader for them and their significant others, Anaiis and Jonathan. She attended their births, concerts, award ceremonies, sport events and graduations. However, they fondly remember her Christmas traditions, Crow stories, the “mushing on the couch” and always having their favorite ice cream in the freezer for every visit.
Exhibiting tenacity, strong work ethic, and an incessant quest for knowledge, Peg graduated with a BS in Computer Science, summa cum laude from Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT while working full time as an I.T. Project manager for insurance and technology companies in Connecticut, including Aetna.
Peg loved being anywhere with Dave, gardening, outings with the “tribe” and her many networks of dear friends, trivia nights, operas especially Carmen, playing piano, orchestral and violin music concerts, reading, UCONN Women’s Basketball, Clue board games with her grandkids, a sharpened pencil and an impossible math problem, marathon shopping excursions with her daughter that always included a lunch, an afternoon coffee break with a cookie for extra stamina, dinner and a post shopping fashion show for Dave.
She will be dearly missed but her kindness, beauty and legendary desserts will be fondly remembered.
Friends and Family are welcome to celebrate Peg’s life at a Memorial Service at the Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 2100 Buffaloe Road, Garner, NC on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 11:00am.
