LaVerne Francine Simmons-Clark

LaVerne F. Simmons-Clark blessed this world with her fierce presence on October 18, 1955, born and raised in San Francisco, California. LaVerne, better known to most as "Cookie" to family members, was the only child of Freeman & Evelyn Simmons, who preceded her in death during the mid to late 80s.

In her early years, she strived for greatness by achieving her Bachelor's Degree from San Francisco State University. She went on to work for The Better Business Bureau for several years before following her passion for Cooking. In the years to come she would become the Owner and Operator of Panache Catering & Word's Inc. A successful, driven, and passionate businesswoman. Her sophisticated charm and elegance set her apart, whereas her enchanting personality could effortlessly brighten any room. 

LaVerne captivated the hearts of all who came to know her, especially that of her husband of 34 years. Mr. Harry D. Clark, with whom she shared the best years of her life alongside, learning and growing as one. In recent years she taught all of us the meaning of the word "Strength" as she confronted Cancer head-on while empowering those around her to remain optimistic. As a result of her intentional encouragement, she aided in her husband's recovery from Cancer. Above all, her Greatest Ackalaide was motherhood! She may have only given birth twice, but she was a mother to many! Any child connected to her lacked anything, as she was a provider! A provider of love and the belief that we as children could achieve greatness. Her positive reinforcement changed the lives of many who grew into successful adults. A phenomenal woman she was in life! Therefore we celebrate the Angel she will become to watch over all of us!

Her light falls upon her husband Harry D. Clark. Her Daughter and Son-n-law Adeanna & Justin Brown. Her Son and Daughter-n-law Darnell & Lori Fields. Seventeen Grand-Children; Asjalique, Trenton, Aniah, Yezell, James, Mercedes, Kiana, Alexis, Iysis & Joey D'Arco, Cycarra & Josh Miller, Kristina & Rafael Quevedo, and Laina & Cody Chambers and J'lyn. Six Great-Grand-Children; Lily, Ynzell, Vinny, Kylie, Kolton, Xyon, Santana and Kalvin. Her God-Children; Lue, Cresha, JaCinda, Quaniesha, David & JG. Along with a host of Family & Friends. 

A visitation will be held Friday, April 8, 2022 from 3 until 5 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.
