John Thomas Barnes Jr., 74, of Goldsboro passed away Friday, June 21, 2024 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center with his family by his side.

 

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro with Elder Edna Durham officiating.  Burial with military honors will follow at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home.

 

Mr. Barnes was born in Snow Hill, NC on December 2, 1949 to the late John Thomas Barnes Sr. and Ruby Mae Sutton Barnes.  He was a member of the Goldzcity Camaroz Club.

 

He is survived by his wife, Sharon DeBruce Barnes; two sons, Bernard Barnes and Steven Stewart and wife, Moreal; two daughters, Brianna Hinnant and Kenya DeBruce; three brothers, Rodney Barnes and Lerone Barnes and wife, Idell and Vernard Barnes; one sister, Rena Saunders and husband, Donald; his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Jermine Barnes and one sister, Rochelle Hobbs.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534 in his memory.
