Joan Flynn, Goldsboro, NC, was born in Philadelphia, PA, to Harry Elliott and Elizabeth Anderson Elliott and was married for 59 years to her husband, John J. Flynn, Sr., Retired US Army Master Sergeant. She raised three boys, John J. Flynn, Jr. -- Pittsboro, NC; Joseph P. Flynn, Goldsboro, NC -- and Jason P. Flynn, Savannah, GA.

Joan was a lifelong champion of numerous charities and was a devoted pen pal to a variety of people across the US. She loved sending and receiving mail. Christmas was her favorite time of year, especially for decorating her home with all her snowmen and angel decorations. She loved listening to Christmas music any time of the year.

She is preceded in death by her husband John J. Flynn, Sr., parents Harry and Elizabeth, sister Pauline Elliott, special sister-in-law Helen “Honey” Negron, special aunt Vera Robinson, and grandson Benjamin Flynn. She is survived by her brother Jim Elliott, sons John (Tami), Joseph (Theresa) and Jason (Rebecca), as well as five grandchildren (Jennifer, Jessica, John, Emily, and Jayden) extended grandchildren (Tychelle, George, James, Brittany, and Michael) and six great-grandchildren (John, Joseph, Jackson, Mason, Avery, and Cash).

Special thanks to loving nieces Cindy Negron and Tina Negron, as well as Jose and Gladys Martinez.

No formal service will be held.

The family is in the care of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.
