Jo Ann Twyman Smith, 71, of the Rosewood community went to her heavenly home Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at home surrounded by her loving family.

 

A service to celebrate her life will be held Sunday, February 4, 2024 at 2 p.m. in the gymnasium at Rosewood High School. The family will greet friends following the service.

 

Mrs. Smith was a native of Jacksonville, North Carolina born on May 9, 1952 to the late Joseph Gordon and Mildred Tallman Twyman.  She attended St. Mary's Junior College in Raleigh and graduated from East Carolina University where she received a Master's Degree in Art Education.  She was a National Board Certified Teacher having taught at Rosewood High School for 34 years.  While there, she was the cheerleader coach, the Student Council Advisor and served as a peer teacher.  She also hosted many student teachers and assisted them with their career path. 

 

JoAnn was a lifetime member of Pine Forest United Methodist Church.  She was an avid fan of the ECU Pirates, Rosewood Eagles and any teams coached by her sons.  GiGi enjoyed spending time with her four grandsons, attending various athletic events and activities.  She enjoyed catching up with lifelong friends and was an active member of the GGC.

 

She is survived by her loving husband, Steve Smith; two sons, Josh Smith of Goldsboro and Troy Smith and wife, Abby Barrow of Morehead City and her grandchildren, Connor, Cooper, Caden and Ashton.
