Jimmie Edward Best

Jimmie Edward Best, 73, of Mount Olive passed away Sunday evening, April 14, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family.


Mr. Best was born in Wayne County on March 19, 1951, and was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. His joys in life were playing the guitar, woodworking, and playing cornhole. He was also a great squirrel hunter. However, he loved his family more than anything. Even though he was stubborn and spoke his mind about anything and everything, he had such a big sense of humor that he made people laugh in any circumstance and had so much passion in anything he would do. He will be missed greatly by all.


He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Barbara Best; one daughter, Wendy Smith and husband, Jeff of Pikeville; three brothers, Johnnie Best and wife, Lee Ann of Goldsboro, Danny Best and wife, Vickie of Rosewood and Michael Best of Greenville; one sister, Patricia Gonsalves and husband, Leon of Hawaii; three grandchildren, Logan Flowers, Jeffrey Smith and wife, Kendra and Nicholas Smith; two great-grandsons, Aydan Smith and Clayton Smith and his beloved dog, Scrappy.


He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Best; his mother, Agnes (Westbrook) Best Rogers and his daughter, Tracy Best.

A graveside service will be held Friday, April 19, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Goldsboro with military honors.  The family will greet friends following the service.
