Jessie Belle “Roseann” Young, 87, of Goldsboro, North Carolina, passed away on February 28, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born on April 16, 1937, in Charleston, South Carolina, Jessie’s life was one of devotion, service, and love.

 

After graduating from high school, Jessie enlisted in the United States Air Force, where she worked in a neonatal unit. It was during her time at Eglin Air Force Base in Pensacola, Florida, that she met the love of her life, Leon Young Jr. The couple married in August of 1957, beginning a life together full of adventure, travel, and family.

 

As a proud Air Force family, Jessie and Leon moved frequently, living in Germany and California, before settling in Dudley, North Carolina, where they raised their six children. Jessie’s nurturing spirit extended beyond her own family, and she was known for her generosity, kindness, and selflessness.

 

Jessie is preceded in death by her parents, Oliver Hilton and Marie Daisey Hilton, and her beloved husband, Leon Young Sr.

 

She leaves behind her sister, Pandora Lillie Mae Bradham (Lee), and her children: Leon Young Jr, Mary V. Dowell (Greg), Kenneth R. Young, Samuel L. Young (Alice), Mark A. Young, and Larain Y. Geathers (George). She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, two nieces, a nephew, and a circle of friends whose lives she touched with her warmth and love.

 

Her legacy of love, faith, and family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. A devoted mother, sister, and friend, Jessie’s presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever remain a source of comfort and strength for her family.

 

A graveside service to celebrate Jessie’s life will be held Friday, May 2, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Arlington National Cemetery where she will be buried with her husband of 48 years.

 

Rest in peace, Jessie. You will always be remembered with love.
