Jay Roger Wolf, 86, of Brookdale Country Day Road passed away Monday, September 11, 2023.
A service to celebrate his life will be held in Rittman, Ohio.
Mr. Wolf was born in Uhrichsville, Ohio on March 31, 1937 to the late Dick Stanford and Mildred Wilkinson Wolf. While he was a very private man, he was very committed to his family. After marrying his college sweetheart, they embarked on a new life in California, first settling in Monrovia. He worked for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, missing less than 2 days of work in 40 years. In 1971, he purchased a Honda automobile sedan in the first year Honda manufactured cars, and he used it for camping trips to the desert and Baja California. On one trip to Baja California, he drew the ire of the border control agents when he saw 3 crammed children in the back seat. He and his wife of 63 years enjoyed taking cross country trips in their conversion van to visit family and friends. He never tired of driving overnight, once driving straight through from Colorado to Georgia, carrying 3- and 5-year-old grandchildren. While in Georgia he,picked up additional grandchildren and drove them all to Disney World. He also became the main chauffeur for trips to the Rose Parade, Disneyland, and the beach. He also enjoyed international travel with his wife and visited Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. After retiring, he never wore a watch because he said he didn’t need to keep track of time. He loved his Los Angeles Lakers and the Dodgers, and he would light up with a smile when talking about them. We will miss you, your laugh, and your smile.
He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis Oppliger Wolf; two sons, Dr. Kevin Jay Wolf (Virginia “Ginny”) of Goldsboro, NC, Keith William Wolf (Carole) of Marietta, Georgia; daughter, Kim Mildred Woody (Eric) of Lakewood, Colorado; his grandchildren, Rebecca Wolf Fitzgerald (Sterling), Matthew Wolf, William Wolf (Brenda “Cat”), Patrick Wolf, Gregory Wolf (Courtney), Christine Wolf Salter (Wes), Dr. Joshua Fleck and Dr. Amber Fleck, and four great-grandchildren, Henry and Molly Fitzgerald, Walker Wolf, William Wolf, and a great-granddaughter on the way.
In addition, Mr. Wolf is survived by his nephews, Danny Kiefer and David Kiefer both of Wayne County, Ohio and a niece, Brenda Cook of Wayne County, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Wolf was preceded in death by his two brothers, Duane Wolf and Jerome “Jerry” Wolf.
