James Ray Chase

James Ray Chase, 89, went to meet his Heavenly Father late in the evening on December 7, 2020.  James was born in Wayne County on June 17, 1931 to the late Herman and Lina T. Chase.

The family will be having a graveside service at the Chase Family Cemetery on Forehand Road at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2020.  The family requests that everyone attending please wear a mask.

James was known and treasured for his loving and bright personality.  He could make anyone smile no matter their age.  James had a true enjoyment spending time on the backhoe and with his many animals.

James is survived by his loving wife, Audrey Sasser Chase; three daughters, Cathy Mitchell and husband, Jackie of Dudley; Ronnie Wade and husband, Dwight of Bracey, Virginia and Terry Parnell and husband, Tony of Pikeville; one son, Robbie Chase and wife, Pam of Pikeville.  James was well loved by ten grandchildren; Kevin Mitchell and wife, Tina of Pikeville; Kim Jones and husband, Stacey of Pikeville; Cameron Mitchell and wife, Kelly of Pikeville; Brad Wade and wife, Ladonna of Roanoke Rapids; Brandy Talton and husband, Ted of Goldsboro; Josh Parnell and wife, Karla of Goldsboro; Chase Parnell of Pikeville; Ashley Joyner and husband, Jeremy of La Grange; Jeremy Chase and wife, Brandi of Pikeville and Hailey Kirby and husband, Barney of Pikeville.  He was blessed with twenty-one great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren that he loved dearly as well as his brothers and sisters, Delton Chase (Ruth); Eva Hehlm; Barbara Forehand (Mickey); Gay Byrd (Bob); Johnny Chase (LaVon) and Bobby Keith Chase (Paulette).

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brothers, Freeman H. Chase and Billy Chase and his sister, Mae Grimes.

The family is in the care of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.
