Herbert Hoover Gray, Sr., 85, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at his home.
A memorial talk will be held Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 3 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Eleventh Street in Goldsboro. Brother Harvey Jacobs will officiate.
Mr. Gray was born in Lenoir County, NC on January 30, 1934 to the late Willie Ray Gray Sr. and Eliza Wooten Gray. He was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses and retired from Cherry Hospital in Goldsboro. Mr. Gray worked alongside his brother at Center Motor Sales of Goldsboro and was also a former driver for Wayne Transportation.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 38 years, Charlotte McCoy Gray; five sons, Herbert H. Gray Jr of Raleigh, Chester E. Gray, Sr. and wife, Robin of Virginia, Hilton C. Gray and wife, Tasha of Charlotte, Matthew McCoy of Arizona and Mark McCoy of Goldsboro; two daughters, Clara Whitfield and husband, John of Goldsboro and Marla McCoy of Georgia; daughter-in-law, LaShonida McCoy; one brother, Oscar Gray Sr. and wife, Mary of Maryland; one sister, Irene Kinsey of LaGrange; a sister-in-law, Louise Gray of Goldsboro; sixteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Gray was preceded in death by his son, Morris McCoy; two brothers, Willie Gray Sr. and James Gray Sr. and two sisters, Eleanor Jones and Frances Isler.
