Gary James Barton

Gary James Barton, 85, passed away peacefully, in the presence of family members, on Friday, December 31st 2021, at The Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, North Carolina.

He was born on September 2nd, 1936 in Machias, New York, to Walter Joseph Barton and Thelma Follick Barton. Gary graduated from Olean High School in 1954. He served his country for eight years at the Army station at Slatersville Nike Space Military Base in Rhode Island. Gary married Dolores Disautell in 1957. Gary built his career at Cramer's Industrial Supply where he became Vice President. Gary and Dolores raised their five children in North Tonawanda, New York. He taught his children a love for camping, nature, athletics, and family unity.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Dolores "Duby" Barton and four children, Deborah Barton Stallings, Gary Barton Jr., Joseph Barton and Jennifer Barton Davis. He has 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Gary has 3 surviving siblings. Walter Barton, Timothy Barton, and Ann Henderson.

He is preceded by his daughter, Cynthia Stallard, and his sisters Karen Kwiatkowski and Emily Chandler.

An active member of the Catholic Church and a Third Degree Knight of Columbus. Gary achieved the "Star of the Sea" award at Saint Stephen's Roman Catholic Church in Grand Island, NY. Gary was an avid badminton and power volleyball player for many years. He attended multiple years of the New York Senior Games with his cherished friends from 3rd Warder's Club in North Tonawanda, NY.
 

A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, January 6, 2022 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Goldsboro.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 until 10:45 a.m. at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.  Final resting will be at St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church in Grand Island, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
