Bobby Gene Jones

Bobby Gene Jones, 78, of Alton, Virginia passed away Sunday, September 12, 2021 at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston, Virginia.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, September 16, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park in Dudley.  The family will receive friends following the service.

Mr. Jones was born in Lenoir County on June 13, 1943 to the late James Bernice Jones and Margaret Avery Jones.

He is survived by two brothers, James Jones Jr. and wife, Jo Ann of Goldsboro and Kenneth Ray Jones and wife, Wanda of Pikeville; three sisters, Margaret Ann Stanley and husband, Leroy of Goldsboro, Mary Kearney and husband, Steve of Goldsboro and Brenda Strother of Kinston; a sister-in-law, Kay Jones of Mount Olive and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Comments from siblings: Bobby was such a good and kind person. He would not talk bad about anyone.   He always had a smile. Very supportive of his family even though he was living in Virginia. As Bobby never had any children of his own, we all took him “under our wings”, especially since his sickness in 2017. He was not a complainer. Always had a positive attitude.

Bobby loved to fish, pier fishing, surf fishing or from a boat! One sister remembers that Bobby was surf fishing one time and of course he had no shoes on and definitely no sunscreen. His feet got so sunburned he had blisters that looked like balloons, but it was worth it to him! She stated we had not seen Bobby for 2 years due to COVID but so thankful to be able to see him in his final days, hold his hand and let him know how much we all loved him. It didn’t take a lot to make him happy. He liked things simple and he was happiest when he was with family! We all love him so much and will never forget what impact he had on each of us. Rest In Peace our sweet brother and we believe we will see you again in Heaven!

In addition to his parents, Mr. Jones was preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny Jones and Linwood Jones and a brother-in-law, Marc Strother.

The family is in the care of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.
