Reverend James Alton Hairr, 75, of Mount Olive went to his heavenly home Thursday, July 11, 2019 at Genesis Health Care in Mount Olive.
Homegoing services will be held Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Mount Olive Church of God with the Reverend Jackie Hamm, Reverend Jerry Ezzell, Reverend Daniel Lewis and the Reverend D. A. Leonard officiating. Interment will follow at Autryville New Life Church of God Cemetery in Autryville. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the church.
Reverend Hairr was born in Sampson County on August 10, 1943 to the late Cleveland Minson Hairr and Sarah Jane Sessoms Hairr. He was a retired Church of God Minister and Bishop serving most recently at Mount Olive Church of God from 2008-2018. Reverend Hairr also pastored at Fair Bluff, Williamston, East Spencer, Bolton, Kittrell, Old Mill, Salemburg, Angier, Warrenton and Selma Church of God during his 45 years of ministry winning souls for his Lord and Savior. He will be truly missed by his family and church family.
He is survived by his wife, Laraine Ray Hairr; his children, Jimmy Hairr, Lisa Simmons (Mark), Dawn Branham (Pete), Gary Leonard, Reverend Aaron Leonard (Kimberly) and Daniel Lewis (Shannon); his sister, Betty Jane Davis (Jerry); his brother, Robert Hairr (Barbara); eleven grandchildren, Whitney, Jamerson, Tyler, Jessica, Tucker, Jonathan, Chris, Sam, Brooklyn, Trinity and Landon and numerous great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Reverend Hairr was preceded in death by his first wife, Mona Barefoot Hairr and his sisters, Rochell Godwin and Lola Mae Davis.
The family is in the care of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.
