Mr. Barnes was born in Fremont, NC on March 01, 1939 to the late Oscar and Dollie Sykes Barnes. He graduated from Fremont School. He married the love of his life, Shirley in 1958 and they traveled the world together. Our family was forever blessed by our parents.
He had many different interests but loved working with his hands. He built two wonderful homes for his family where so many wonderful memories were made. He was a proud to serve his country in the first Gulf war. In semi-retirement, he and Shirley opened their own pool and spa business until he finally decided to retire full time after a full and eventful life. But even in retirement he always found something to keep him busy. He loved UNC basketball but was most happy working in his beautiful yard. Mr. Barnes was a member of St. Joseph United Methodist Church in Pikeville.
Mr. Barnes is survived by his son, Brad Barnes and wife, Angie; daughter, Tammy Barnes Trail and husband, Mike; sister, Catherine Bradshaw; grandchildren, Matthew Trail and wife, Vikki, Kristin Grinstead and husband, Kyle and a special niece, Dale Robinson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Turner Barnes and his siblings, Ruth, Effie, Lassiter, Leonard and Jack.
The family is in the care of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.
