Nelson Nash Riggs Sr.

Nelson Nash Riggs Sr., 79, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center with his family by his side.

The family will receive friends Sunday, December 16, 2018 from 4 until 5:30 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.

Mr. Riggs was born in Jones County, NC on August 26, 1939 to the late Edward Nash Riggs and Vivian Hardy Riggs.  He was a member of The Shepherd’s Chapel and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

Mr. Riggs is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Riggs; two sons, Nelson Riggs Jr. and wife, Tracy of Fremont and Scott Riggs and wife, Mamie of Goldsboro; daughter, Lana Smithwick and husband, Bruce of Pikeville; two sisters, Judy Marlene Crisp and husband, Howard of Washington, NC and Evelyn Folsom of Georgia; eight grandchildren, Michael Riggs and wife, Jessica, Caroline Riggs, Natalie Riggs, Jordan Riggs, Scotty Riggs, Debra Riggs, Spencer Riggs and Stuart Harris and wife, Sarah and six great-grandchildren, Braxton, Sawyer, Blythe, Aubrey, Miller and Miles.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers and sisters.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534.

The family is in the care of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.
