Joyce Smith Hare

Joyce Smith Hare, 80, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 14, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.  Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park in Dudley.  The family will receive friends Monday from 1 until 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hare was born in Wayne County June 15, 1937 to the late Jim Berry and Exie Wells Smith.  She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Mackvick and husband, Jeff of Clayton; two brothers, James Smith and wife, Mariam of Winston-Salem and Shelton Smith and wife, Linda of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Ariel DiDonato (Mark), Leah Scheib (Frank Worthington), William Mackvick (Melissa) and Cody Mackvick (Kara) and three great-grandchildren, Avery, Isabella and James.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hare was preceded in death by her husband, Jethro “June” Hare Jr. and a brother, Billy Smith.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, North Carolina 27534.
