Elizabeth Maricia (Cobb) Horne

In the early hours of the morning on September 3rd, 2019, our hearts were broken as God called our Favorite Lady home.

Elizabeth Maricia Horne was born on April 17th, 1943, in Faison, NC. She was the youngest child of Lila James Cobb and Matthew Cobb.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.  Visitation will be held from noon until 12:45 p.m. at the funeral home.  Interment will follow at Cobb Cemetery in Faison.

Elizabeth, better known to close family and friends as Nib, spent her younger years in Duplin County. After graduating from Douglas High School, she headed off to New York to get away from the small-town living. Soon after, she moved to San Bernardino, California. There, she got married, started a family, and obtained a college degree in Early Childhood Education, an LPN certification, and worked as an Executive Administrative Assistant.

Still on a quest to broaden her horizons, Nib moved to Boston, Massachusetts. It was there that she remarried and raised her 5 children. Once she retired, Nib returned to North Carolina to be closer to her extended family.

As the head-strong matriarch of her family, Nib spent the rest of her life caring for and nurturing her descendants. She enjoyed traveling, attending family functions and being close to her loved ones. Nib, affectionately called Grammy, took great pleasure in supporting her grandchildren and great grandchildren in all of their different extra-curricular activities. She carried an infectious smile, a few jokes, and a stubbornness that you had no choice but to respect.

She is preceded in death by her sisters: Emma Mae Thompson, Josephine Shaw, Sula Cobb, & Bertha Louise Cobb. Brothers: Matthew James Cobb & Charlie Cobb. As well as her son Ozell (Gary) Buchanan, Jr.

May your soul rest with everlasting peace as your spirit finds eternal comfort in the Most High.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories one daughter of the home: Amye' (Darryl) Dodd; Three sons: Lenwood (Lisa) Buchanan, Timothy Buchanan, and Darryl (Monica) Buchanan; One Brother, Willie Cobb, Sr.  She also leaves 18 Grandchildren; 17 Great Grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and special friends.

The family is in the care of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.
