Billy Jr. Lawhorne, 82, passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 19, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro. Interment with military honors will follow in Princeton Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Lawhorne was born in Johnston County on September 27, 1936 to the late Billy Benjamin Lawhorn and Bertha Tyner Lawhorn. He was the youngest of seven children.
He was married to the love of his life, Martha on February 5, 1960. They were happily married for 55 years and had four children.
He proudly served in the United States Marines for 21+ years. After he retired from the Marines, he helped his son start a hardwood flooring business. In his retirement years, he enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Johnny Lawhorne and wife, Donna of Goldsboro, Shirley Bowman of Roanoke, Texas, Michael Lawhorne and wife, Miyoung of Goldsboro, Elizabeth Franks and husband, Curtis of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Paul Bowman of Roanoke, Texas, Angel Irwin and husband, Kelly of Rome, Texas, Frank Bowman and wife, Meagan of Roanoke, Texas, Brandon Franks and wife, Krysane of Seven Springs, Brittany Hankins and husband, Justin of Wilson, Brooke Padgett and husband, Jeremy of Pikeville, Camren Franks of Goldsboro, Joshua Lawhorne of Goldsboro, Leah Lawhorne of Goldsboro and ten great-grandchildren.
Mr. Lawhorne was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife and his brothers and sisters.
The family is in the care of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.
