Betty (Reed) Acree

Betty Reed Acree, 90, formerly of Eagle’s Pointe passed away Monday, January 13, 2020 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

A funeral will be held Thursday, January 16, 2020 at 4 p.m. at New Hope United Methodist Church with the visitation immediately following in the Narthex.  A celebration of Betty’s life will follow the service at the home of Erin and Felipe Fonseca, 124 Michele Dawn Drive in Goldsboro.  A private graveside service will be held at Wayne Memorial Park.

Betty was born in Spencer, West Virginia on November 21, 1929 to the late William Brady Reed Sr. and Ruth Price Reed.  She was married for 53 years to the late John Ogden Acree.

Betty was a longtime member of New Hope United Methodist Church and an avid bridge player.

She is survived by three sons, John Acree of Yucheng, China, Steve Acree of Columbus, Ohio and Mike Acree and wife, Cyndi of Goldsboro; her brother, Bob Reed of Hoboken, New Jersey; grandchildren, Mitch Vernazza (Randa), Cora Proctor (Brad), Ellen Acree (Brian O’Malley), Kevin Acree (Brittany) and Erin Fonseca (Felipe); great grandchildren, Nathan Mumax, Austin Vernazza, Lucille Vernazza, Danica Proctor, Harper Anne Acree, Hampton Acree and John Owen Fonseca.   

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Acree was preceded in death by one brother, William Brady Reed Jr. and two sisters, Rita Vaughn and Dee Meadows.

Memorial donations may be made to New Hope United Methodist Church, 200 E. New Hope Road, Goldsboro, North Carolina.

The family is in the care of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.
