David Lawrence Gurley

David Lawrence Gurley, 82, of Goldsboro passed away Saturday, May 13, 2023 at home.

Funeral service will be held Friday, May 19, 2023 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.  Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Princeton with military honors.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Gurley was born in Wayne County on February 19, 1941 to the late Clifton Monroe and Ruby Pearl Sasser Gurley.  He was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from Hevi-Duty Electric.  In his later years, he loved to golf with friends, work in his garden and watch the birds come to his outdoor bird feeders.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Jean Satterfield Gurley; his children, Teresa Gurley Shearin and husband, Grover Todd Shearin and David Edward Gurley and wife, Amy Goehring Gurley; two sisters, Peggy Sasser and Joan Smith and husband, Randy; sister-in-law, Anne E. Gurley; five grandchildren, Stuart Charles Shearin and wife, Jenny, William Todd Shearin, Jackson David Shearin and wife, Lori Ann Shearin, David Thomas Gurley and Avery Elizabeth Gurley and  four great-grandchildren, Addy Mae Shearin, Skylar Jean Shearin, Charles Finley Shearin and Palmer Grey Shearin.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Douglas Gurley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Pikes Crossroads Pentecostal Holiness Church, 2494 Pikeville-Princeton Road, Pikeville, NC 27863.
