Lucinda H. Howell July 20, 2010

Lucinda Howell, 90, of Pikeville and recently of the Sterling House of Goldsboro, went to heaven Tuesday evening, July 20, 2010 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Mrs. Howell was born in Wayne County to the late James William “Will” and Bessie S. Hicks. She and Quentine Howell were married in 1939 and recently celebrated their 71st Wedding Anniversary.

Lucinda attended Pikeville High School and was captain of the school basketball team. She was active at Pleasant Grove FWB Church, Pikeville, and a charter member of the Ladies Night Auxillary. She was well-known as a good cook and chaired the church Food Committee. Singing in the church choir was a favorite activity. Some of her fondest memories were playing softball in the church league, traveling to numerous locations throughout the nation with friends, annual trips to Cragmont Retreat Center at Black Mountain, NC, and working in her yard.

Lucinda is survived by her husband, Quentine, 92, of Pikeville who currently resides at the Sterling House; her sister, Ramona Kirby of Pikeville and husband, Jack; her daughter Jane Gale and husband, Richard Woodard, of Goldsboro; three grandchildren R. Warren Woodard and wife, Melodie, of Goldsboro; Angela Kirkland and husband, Randy, of Chesapeake, Virginia; Christy Kelly and husband, Keith, of Dunn; and great-grandchildren Trae and Katlyn Woodard, Coeltryn, Keaton, Addison, and Rhett Kirkland, Tanner and Leyton Kelly.

Funeral Service will be Friday, July 23, 2010 7:00 pm, at the Howell Funeral Home in Goldsboro with Rev. Barry Stallings of Pleasant Grove officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. At other times, visitation will be at the home of Richard and Jane Woodard, 371 Country Day Rd., Goldsboro. A private burial service for the immediate family will be Saturday, July 24, 2010 at the Pikeville Cemetery.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff of Countryside Assisted Living in Pikeville, the Sterling House, Community Hospice, Wayne Memorial 6th floor nursing personnel, and the staff of Kitty Askins for their love and compassionate care.
