Geraldine R. Thornton February 28, 2010
Geraldine Robinson Eagleson Thornton, daughter of the late Helen B. Robinson and Jeff Bailey, was born January 23, 1923 in Birmingham, AL.
After the death of her biological father, her mother married Bernard A. Robinson who reared her as his own daughter. She departed her earthly life on Sunday, February 28, 2010 at her residence in Durham, NC.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Markham Memorial Gardens in Chapel Hill.
She received her education in the public schools of Tuskegee, AL and attended Tuskegee Institute, (now Tuskegee University). While attending
Tuskegee Institute, she was a three-year starter on the Golden Tigers Women's Varsity Basketball Team. She was employed with the Alabama Public Schools System for several years prior to relocating with her family to North Carolina in 1959. After 23 years of service, she retired as the Volunteer Services Coordinator at O'Berry Center in Goldsboro, NC.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Wilson V. Eagleson, II and to this union four children were born. She was preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Helen F. Eagleson.
She leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her homegoing, two sons, Wilson V. Eagleson, III of Durham, NC and Gerald B. Eagleson and wife,
Marylyn of Goldsboro, NC and one daughter, Diedra A. Coney and friend, Ronald C. Alexander, Sr. of Durham, NC; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and 4 great-greatgrandchildren.
As an aftermath, she was one of the the most vibrant, caring and loving woman God has ever placed on His earth.
Viewing will be held Friday, March 5, 2010 from 4 until 7 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home with the family present from 6 until 7 p.m.
