Leon Clawson Mitchell

Leon “Doodle” Clawson Mitchell, 84, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 13, 2018 from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro and other times at his home.  A graveside service will be held Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at 3 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Princeton. 

Mr. Mitchell was born in Wayne County on September 15, 1934 to the late Levi Edgar Mitchell and Esther Beasley Mitchell where he grew up on the family farm.  He was a lifetime member of the Goldsboro Downtown Lions Club where he served as Past President.  He was owner and operator of his family business, Mitch Craft Boats, Inc. Doodle was an avid car collector and built cars. He loved the outdoors and especially camping, hunting, fishing, water skiing, boating and traveling the country.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Kathleen Faircloth Mitchell; one son, Leon Frank Mitchell of Goldsboro; two daughters, Kathy Mitchell Weeks and Kerri Mitchell Aycock and husband, Mike of Goldsboro; one brother, David Benton Mitchell and wife, Kay of Goldsboro; three sisters, Pauline Faircloth and husband, Edmund, Joyce Cooke and Carol Mitchell and husband, Billy, all of Goldsboro; brother-in-law, Durwood Evans of Princeton; sister-in-law, Katie E. Mitchell of Goldsboro; six grandchildren, Brandon Ferguson, Brooke Adams and husband, Cody, Nathan Mitchell, Lyndsi Mitchell, Kalyn Aycock, and Kenzi Aycock and one great-granddaughter, Danielle Ferguson.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his brother, L.E. Mitchell and a sister, Yvonne Evans.
