Lela Mae (Spence) Darden

Lela Mae Darden, 95, passed away Monday, September 30, 2019 at her home.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 05, 2019 at 11 a.m. at White Oak Grove FWB Church in Pikeville.  Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park in Dudley.  Visitation will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the church.

Mrs. Darden was born in Greene County on August 03, 1924 to the late Gurney and Pimenta Simms Spence.    She was a member of White Oak Grove FWB Church in Pikeville and where she sang in the choir and was faithful to the kitchen committee.

She leaves to cherish her memories three sons, Gurney Darden of Goldsboro, John Darden and wife, Doris of Goldsboro and Michael Darden and wife, Yolanda of Goldsboro; four daughters, Emma Kinsey of Goldsboro, Annie Coley and husband, Marvin of Goldsboro, Mary Franklin of New Jersey and Belinda Cherry and husband, Tony of Goldsboro; her daughters-in-law, Doris Darden of Maryland and Celane Darden of Maryland; nineteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Darden was preceded in death by her husband, Lymon Darden Sr.; three sons, Lymon Darden Jr., Jimmy Darden and Marvin Darden and one sister, Ada McLean.

The family is in the care of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.
