Larry Butts Obituary

Larry Noble Butts, 78, of Goldsboro entered into Heaven early Sunday morning from Kitty Askins Hospice Center after a brief battle with very aggressive cancer.

He was born on October 5th, 1940 in Jacksonville, Florida to Harry Picot “H.P.” and Hazel (Russell) Butts.

In addition to both of his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his wife of over 30 years, Minnie Ruth (Pat) Pender Butts and a brother, Harry Jr. (Buddy) Butts.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne Butts Tyner and Jeffrey Tyner of Pikeville; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael Keith Butts and Mikki Butts of Goldsboro; granddaughter, Brandi Butts King and husband, John of Clayton; grandson, Bradley Michael Butts and wife, Jessica of Goldsboro; granddaughter, Brooke Noelle Butts of Goldsboro; great-grandsons, Eric Michael Butts and Andrew David Butts of Goldsboro and great-granddaughter, Claira Brooke King of Clayton.  He is also survived by two sisters, Barbara Butts Moyer of Alvin, South Carolina and Doris Butts Hall and brother-in-law Robert Hall of Shalimar, Florida; and sister-in-law, Joyce Butts of Jacksonville, Florida.

A retired SMSgt in the U.S. Air Force, he served with distinction in the Military Intelligence Field for 26 years, including service in the Vietnam War and prestigious assignments at Hickam AFB, Hawaii, Shaw AFB, South Carolina, Moody AFB, Georgia, and culminating with the TAC IG Team at Langley AFB, Virginia.  After retirement from the USAF, he worked as a self-employed owner/contractor for L.B. Repair Service for almost two decades.

Affectionately known as “Papa” by his adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and “L.B.” by his many close friends; his smile, wit, and unselfish giving nature will be truly missed by all of us.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to various Veteran’s Organizations and Charities.

The family will receive friends on Thursday night from 4 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the home of his daughter, Suzanne at 2770 Big Daddy’s Road, Pikeville, NC 27863.   There will be a wake/visitation at Howell Funeral Home in Goldsboro on Friday from 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.  Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Thomas officiating.  Burial with full military honors will follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
