Kenneth "Ken" Flynt Quakenbush, 70, of Woodard Care gained his final reward on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
He was born on January 8, 1948 to the late Bill and Joyce Murr Quakenbush. He graduated from Parkland High School, Class of 1967, Winston-Salem NC after which he proudly served his country in the Army Reserve with the 312th Evacuation Hospital in the Vietnam War. During his tour of duty, he was awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense, and Vietnam Service Medals. Afterwards Ken had a career in transportation prior to his declining health.
Ken is survived by his daughter, Wendy Whitfield of Pikeville; son, Kyle Quakenbush (Stephanie) of Cartersville, GA; granddaughter, Reagan Whitfield; great-grandson, Braelyn Tyler, both of Pikeville; brother, Randy Quakenbush; sister-in-law, Karen Brewer; nephew, AJ Quakenbush; niece, Krista Brendle and great-nephew, Landyn Brendle, all of Winston-Salem. Also surviving are his aunt, uncles, cousins, the mother's of his children, Diana Stoker Beason and Debby Quakenbush and caring friends, Joyce Barnes and Teressa Mills.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Terry Quakenbush; grandparents, KP and Javie Murr and Leo and Betty Quakenbush.
A graveside service will be held Friday, November 2, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 164 Longs Plant Farm Road in Goldsboro with Evangelist Jeff Toler presiding. A brief visitation will follow the service at the cemetery.
