A native of Altoona, Pennsylvania, Joseph "Randy" Ruggery was born on April 17, 1960, the youngest of six children born to Robert and Shirley (Hicks) Ruggery.   He departed this walk of life Sunday, January 31, 2016.

Randy married Lisa Benigni, the love of his life, and moved to Goldsboro, North Carolina in 1987.  Randy was a member of Saint Mary Catholic Church and was active with the Knights of Columbus and Saint Mary School. He received a degree in Therapeutic Recreation from Penn State University and worked with individuals with intellectual disabilities as well as a Corrections Officer and a Life Insurance Broker.

Randy is preceded in death by both of his parents and his brother Patrick.

He is survived by his wife and his two daughters, Alaina and Megan Ruggery of Goldsboro.  He also leaves behind his brothers, Robert "Butchie" Ruggery, Ricky Ruggery, Denny Ruggery and his sister, Linda George.  In addition, he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, February 3, 2016 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Saint Mary Catholic Church in Goldsboro with Reverend Alex Gonzales officiating the service.    

Randy was active in his neighborhood community and he never met a stranger. He will be sadly missed for his happy, outgoing manner and his willingness to help others.

A special thank-you goes out to everyone who provided support and prayers during this time of sorrow.
