John David Powell, 83, went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro. 

Homegoing service will be held Monday, March 27, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Mount Olive First Pentecostal Holiness Church.  Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park in Dudley.

Mr. Powell was born March 7, 1934 to the late James Robert and Madge Sutton Powell. 

He was a great husband, father and grandfather and a true born again Christian.  Mr. Powell retired from his own landscaping company.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Davis Powell; a son, John David Powell II (Carolyn); daughter, Lovie McKeel (Rev. Eddie); stepsons, Micah S. Sutton, and Timothy O. Sutton (Angie); step-daughters, Sharon J. Sutton and Judy H. Walker; step-son-in-law, Thomas John Connolly Sr., brothers, Allen Curtis “A.C.” Powell, Joseph Powell (Margie), Willie Ray Powell (Carolyn), Dewey Lee Powell (Janet); sisters, Sallie Hodgin (George), Margaret Wells, Sandra Foss (Ronnie) and Doris Cherry; sister-in-law, Mavis Powell; six grandchildren; six step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his step-daughter, Marilyn Ann Connolly; brother, James Robert Powell Jr.; brother-in-law, Jerry Wells and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Powell.

The family will receive friends Sunday, March 26, 2017 from 3 P.M. until 5 P.M. at Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro.
