Fred Lane Loy Jr. , 72,  went to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Rex Heart and Vascular Center in Raleigh.

 

Fred was born November 1, 1944, Wayne County to the late Fred Lane Loy Sr. and Hazel Underwood Loy.

 

He is survived by his wife of the home Doris Kearney Loy, of Goldsboro. His son, Travis Lane Loy and wife Marie, of Gibsonville. Judy Loy Hamler, First Wife of Gibsonville. Granddaughter, Katie Bug. Grandson, Brayden Davis. Sister, Virginia Susan Hathaway, of GA. Brother, Bobby Dalton, of Burlington. Sisters-in-law, Dolly Mackvick and Faye Phillips. Brothers-in-law, James (Bo) Kearney and wife Mary, Kenneth (Tom) Kearney and wife Betty. And,  many loving nieces and nephews.

 

Fred was a member of United in Christ Church in Goldsboro NC. He was also a member of 634 Masonic Lodge Goldsboro and Tabasco #0271 in Gibsonville, NC.

 

Fred was a member of Goldsboro High School 1962 Goldmasquers, Graduated from Richmond Professional Institute, Richmond VA, Assistant Tech Director for the outdoor play “The Lost Colony” and US Army NG E-6 Mess Sergeant. Fred was part owner of the Clayton NC Radioshack.  His career in Emergency Services defined his life. Fred was a police officer for the Town of Clayton NC, Chief of the Clayton NC Rescue Squad, Owner of Beacon Ambulance Service that was the precursor to Wake County EMS and where he served as the very first C shift Captain. Fred was a long time member of the Elon College Volunteer Fire and Rescue Dept with 20+ years of service to Alamance County NC. Fred also opened and operated Alamance Sentry Hardware in Gibsonville NC until 1984. Later in life he spent many years in the Hardware industry with Smith Hardware Company in Goldsboro NC, Porteous Fastener Company and McGinnis and Associates. Fred ended his career with helping customers at Rosewood Hardware in Goldsboro.

 

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro. Entombment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel in Dudley.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 P.M. until 1:45 P.M.
