Ed was born in the Williams Mill community (Wayne County) on December 21, 1921 to the late Zack Harris and Rosa Massey Harris. Edward joined the United States Army in January 1941 at the age of 19 and proudly served in the 17th Field Artillery seeing battle in WWII in the European Theatre of Operations and most notably the Battle of the Bulge.

Ed was a charter member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church. He was a man of strong faith in his Lord and loved to quote passages of scripture that would give hope and assurance to those who needed a word of encouragement. He was a faithful witness to those he met and it was his desire that all would come to know the Lord. His faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was an anchor for him. One of his favorite quotes was “If God be for us, Who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31)

Ed was a man of entrepreneurship having started a Home Mercantile business in the 50’s and was a U.S. Mail Messenger for 13 years. His latest endeavor was in 1967 when he founded Harris Insurance Agency of Goldsboro that is still in operation today by his sons.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Helen Harris and brothers, Luther Harris, Alvin Harris and Fred Harris.
