Deacon Albert Worrells Sr., the son of the late Wesley and Laura Worrells Sr., was born on December 30, 1928 in Wayne County, NC. Deacon Worrells answered the Master’s call from labor to reward on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center fulfilling the good, acceptable, and pleasing Will of God for his life here with us.

An inspirational wake will be held Sunday, May 28, 2017 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Darden Chapel OFWB Church, E. Hooks River Road in Goldsboro.  Homegoing services will be held Monday, May 29, 2017 at noon at Greenleaf Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Goldsboro.  Burial will follow for the family at Resthaven Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Dudley.

Early in life, he began his career working at Southern Cotton Oil Company and Export Tobacco Company; then later retired from Wayne Memorial Hospital as an Environmental Aid after working for 25 years.

For over 70 years, Deacon Albert Worrells Sr. was a faithful and dedicated member of Darden Chapel O.F.W.B. Church. He was a praying man of God that believed in the power of prayer. His continual and influential testimony to the church has always been, “Singing is alright; praying is alright; but saints, you got to live the life!” He emphasized that the only way to see Christ in peace was to be saved. Deacon Worrells was the devotion leader who often said, “You ought to pop up like popcorn to testify of the goodness of the Lord!” He was well known for singing many songs including: Shine on Me; Down at the Cross; Let Jesus Lead You; When I See the Blood (I Will Pass Over You); and There’s Not a Friend Like the Lowly Jesus. If you didn’t have a song, Deacon Worrells would gladly sing his without hesitation to usher in the Holy Spirit and set the atmosphere for any service come what may. Prior to becoming a deacon, he served as a Senior Usher; over the years, he was ever-faithful at conducting prayer meeting. He was a great supporter of the all the ministries at Darden Chapel; but most of all, he loved his Pastor, Elder Carlton Barnes and Darden Chapel Church family. Deacon Worrells was also a dedicated and devoted member of the Southern District Unions, Conventions, and the O.F.W.B. Annual Conference.

Deacon Worrells was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Laura Worrells, Sr.; his brothers James, Edmond and Wesley Worrells, Jr.; his sisters Marylena Best and Lila Pearl Barnes; and a son, Charles Worrells.

He leaves to cherish his precious memory, his wife of 66 years, Doris Brinson Worrells of the home; two daughters Doris Coley and Elaine Worrells of Goldsboro and his eldest granddaughter of whom he raised Minister Felicia Carmon (Calvin) of Snellville, Georgia; four sons Minister Albert Worrells, Jr. (Camelia) and Dr. Anthony Worrells, Sr. (Darlene) of Goldsboro, Elder Joseph Worrells (Pamela) of Apple Valley, Minnesota, and Michael Worrells (Yvette) of Upper Marlboro, Maryland. His 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. One sister, Clara Lee Barnes of Capital Heights, Maryland, his beloved nephew, Roland Worrells (Cynthia) of Goldsboro, five brothers-in-law, eight sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family is in the care of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.
